A man of many talents
ReplyDeleteI'm always so impressed by Block, especially hearing him live. He's so eloquent and precise with his words, yet it never seems planned. He's just such a gifted storyteller, always a pleasure to listen to (and read).
ReplyDeleteAnyone know where I can get some snuff?

Peter, have you read Block's short essay on Fredric Brown? I can't remember which Dennis McMillan volume it is in ... Anyway, Block talks about buying one of Brown's books, a bottle of scotch, and matching Brown's characters drink for drink. And then he blacked out and had no idea what happened in the rest of the book. Ha ha! Block sure knows how to party. Maybe NoirCon 2014 we can come up with some Lawrence Block-inspired drinking games.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to read Block's essay on Brown. One of Brown's novels --Night of the Jabberwock, I think -- takes place entirely in an alcoholic fog, so Block made a poor choice. Or a wise one.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if a drinking game is a good idea, since we would not want Lou Boxer to wind up assisting at operations on his own attendees. Ah, what the hell: Pick three ingredients out of a hat, make a drink out of them, and either drink the drink or work it into a story.
